Virginia Tech’s new VT
Virginia Tech, a large research university with 33,000 students established in 1872, has decided to change its academic logomark and logotype. The redesign, created by IMG, “represents all the good things in [the Virginia Tech] community, according to President Tim Sands.
The logo, which bares striking resemblance to the “flying VT” logo that the university’s sports teams have used for years, features a modified Acherus Grotesque, with an upright V and oblique T. The right-hand arm of the V folds over into the T, creating a smooth—albeit slightly awkwardicon. The text, in an attempt to match the icon’s flow, features sliced corners where possible, which don't do justice to the university's high rank.
To fill in the rest of the brand, IMG has decided on Acherus Grotesque, Gineso, and Minion Pro as the typefaces and maroon and orange as the colors, which have not changed through this rebrand. Learn more about the new branding by visiting Virginia Tech’s website.
