Matt Willey’s Blakey Slab for a Cause
Say Hello to Blakey Slab: A Font for Free Speech.
Most designers are altruistic at heart, but find it difficult to contribute their time and talent to organizations they care about. Matt Willey has found a way to make his contribution by releasing Blakey Slab: a condensed, all-caps slab serif typeface in two styles. All proceeds from Blakey Slab will be donated to the ACLU.
These types are a commercial version of the fonts Willey developed for use in the New York Times Magazine L.A. Noir ‘Great Performances’ Issues published in print and used online in an experimental video series in December, which received wide acclaim for their sharp presentation and elegant use of this unexpected type choice.
Both Blakey Slab typefaces are available for personal and commercial use. You can buy a license through Willey’s Sellfy page for $25. Blakey Slab is a good way to help out an organization and get some good fonts at the same time.
